Greetings!

Hi, this is Andre, the creator of the 3D CD Rack storage system, I’m the guy in the booth at an international marketing exposition. Thanks for visiting this site. Let me give you some background on the origins of our unusual compact disc holder. I listen to a lot of jazz music. At one point I thought, “How can I turn some of these jazz discs into a display of some kind? You know, show off my musical taste and utilize the space on this bare wall?” So I thought about the way greeting card stores show all their cards on aisle-long display shelves. I figured, “Hey, I’m a carpenter, I’ll make thin-lipped compact disc storage shelves along those same lines.”

The First CD Holder

The 3D CD Rack woodworking shop

I went into my shed and with leftover materials I made a bulky compact disc storage shelf, 6 discs high and 9 long, that sat on the floor. I brought it into the living room, propped it against a wall and filled it with 54 discs. It stuck out about a foot from the wall, but as handcrafted shelving, it looked decent holding all my favorite music on it. By the way, the picture on the left is of our latest woodworking shop, not the shed where I made the original CD Rack!

A CD Holder that Hangs AND Stands!

After a few months of having that huge CD holder leaning against the wall, I noticed that it looked slightly uncouth sitting on the floor, sticking out so far from the wall. Not exactly a sleek addition to an entertainment center – and certainly not an ideal compact disc storage solution. Every once in a while I’d trip on the bottom edge as I walked by, and most of the music I hadn’t even played yet. I had only listened to my latest favorites. So I got to thinking, how can I shrink this thing to display only my favorite music and hang it on a wall to get it out from under foot? I experimented in my shed designing all different CD holders. I made close to a hundred variations. While making these hanging compact disc storage units, it dawned on me: “Hey, why not just make a leg extension so the CD holder can also freestand on a flat surface.” This added versatility to what had become a cool entertainment unit accessory. I started placing the disc holder and organizer on top of my stereo cabinet.

The 3D CD Rack: A Compact Disc Storage Solution

After making all those variations I found that the 3 X 3 CD rack (3 discs across by 3 down) was the best. You could easily access your latest music, hang it on a wall, freestand it near your stereo, and display your favorites. At that point I figured it might be worth getting a patent on this idea. So I applied for a Patent, and after waiting a couple of years, Design Patent 413754 was issued on September 14, 1999. While the Patent was pending I started marketing the compact disc storage shelf locally. I sold 16 of them at local music stores and trade shows. Then I started selling them on-line at eBay and setting up my own company and website.

Tell Your Friends!

Now business is pretty brisk. I’m running the shop with about a dozen employees and it appears that I’ll be hiring more over time as we expand. And just a note, a significant percentage of sales of the 3D CD Rack have been for use in various areas in addition to the household environment, like the office, dorm room, computer workstation, used by DJs for quick selection of CDs and in booths at convention centers displaying CDs. If you know of any large manufacturing and marketing company that might be interested in mass producing and marketing this CD holder contact me through this website. Thanks again for visiting!
